In defiance of those clinging to power through oppression, journalists who follow the truth will continue to report and write with courage. They will not be able to cover up the truth.

A trustee has been appointed to Halk TV, Turkey’s most-watched news channel. As the regime began to crumble like snow in the summer sun in the face of the truth, it once again resorted to the method it knows best: ‘repression and bans’. Following the arrests of journalists, internet restrictions and social media bans, they have once again attempted to seize control of a television channel, this time after Tele1.

Yes, as of yesterday, Halk TV’s screens will now feature Erdoğan, Bahçeli and Kılıçdaroğlu. The lies will continue to be broadcast from that channel too. So, will the country find peace? Will the system of poverty and corruption that has been created come to an end? Will young people wake up to a safe day, and pensioners to a peaceful one? Of course not.

The thick layer of fog hanging over the country will only grow heavier.

Erdoğan, Bahçeli, Kılıçdaroğlu and the others may expect a different outcome after all this oppression, but the world will carry on turning. No court, no administrator can change this reality. Moreover, there are thousands of brave people who reiterate this truth every single day.

This dark regime will certainly be defeated.

It will be defeated thanks to the journalists who resist in order to do their profession and tell the truth.

It will be defeated by the solidarity of women.

It will be defeated by the rebellion of the young.

It will be defeated by the organised power of labour.

It will be defeated by the united struggle of those who stand for what is good, just and beautiful.

You may seize control of Halk TV and try to silence the media entirely, but you will not succeed. The people will have the final say against the Palace.
